I remember i when i was 12 years old, i got my brand spanking new Super Nintendo console with Super Mario All Stars for Xmas and as years passed i bought more and more console games. Eventually i sold the old console as pc got more and more entertaining for me (my first pc was before i was 10). Now i use a Snes emulator on my pc to run these old games and it brings back some very old happy classic memories, just like the old DOS games do.
If any of you used to enjoy these sort of primative games years ago you too can play them on your pc.
1. ZSNES is the best emulator i have used, it seems very stable and has a good clear user interface. Can be downloaded here:
www.zsnes.com/index.php?page=files
Just click on Bianary under Win and latest version (1.51 at time of post)
2. Once you have downloaded this emulator open up the ZIP file and extract it to your designated folder (eg. C:\Snes) take note of where you stored this emulator as it is usefull to put the games in the same directory.
3. The SNES games are called 'ROMs' AKA 'read only memory' and can be downloaded from here (2 pages of games to choose from):
www.cpujunky.com/Snesrom1.html
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some games i used to play and recommend are:
1. Super mario All Stars (4 different Mario Bros games from the 80's to the 90's)
2.Donkey Kong Country
Mortal Kombat 3 is cool too but it's almost impossible to play it via keyb, suggest using a USB game pad/controller.
There are heaps of other good games there but these are the main ones i used to play and i know that they are somewhat entertaining.
Obviously there are other emulators out there such as Sega, Commodore64 etc. If you're more interested in those you can always find them by searching Google.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Running the SNES emulator
Running the emulator is quite easy, simply open up zsnesw.exe from the directory you extracted to.
When you have opened this program it will appear small, don't worry this is normal. Simply click on 'config' and scroll down to 'video' here you can set the screen resolution to whatever you like.
To run a game simply got to 'game' in the menu and 'load' then select the game you wish to run.
There are many more features but you will have to explore them as there are so many but you can do all kinds of things like change sound quality, frequency, slow down or speed up games etc.
Key configurations can be found under 'config' and 'input'. Basically enter, a,z, and arrow keys for direction are the main keys to use in most games, i'm not sure if the emulator supports USB game pads, it should, it is a little hard to use the keyboard in some games but you learn to get used to it after a while, others are near impossible.
